Getting the shot
Keeping your subject in sharp focus underwater can be challenging because currents and turbulence can shift both the diver and the organism. Even breathing can affect depth and make it difficult to maintain a steady shot. Light also behaves differently underwater, with colors gradually being absorbed and fading as depth increases. At greater depths, increased pressure can affect the diver, camera equipment, and quality of light. Water clarity can vary as well, further influencing how clearly you can see and photograph your subject.
When we dive, we capture the underwater world with Olympus Tough series cameras and housings, Ikelite and Inon strobes, Kraken and Sola video lights, and Backscatter lenses to bring the colors, creatures, and magic of the reef to life.
Exploring the underwater world is an incredible adventure, and it comes with challenges. From navigating the vast, often disorienting underwater environment to managing essential aspects like buoyancy, depth, and compressed air, every dive demands intense focus. Capturing those stunning underwater shots requires technical skill and an awareness of the fragile marine ecosystems we’re privileged to witness. Balancing safety with the thrill of discovery makes every dive a unique and rewarding experience.
