From navigating the vast, often disorienting underwater environment to managing essential aspects like safety, buoyancy, and compressed air, every dive demands intense focus. Capturing those stunning underwater shots requires technical skill and an awareness of the fragile marine ecosystems we’re privileged to witness. Balancing safety with the thrill of discovery makes every dive a unique and rewarding experience.
Getting the shot
Keeping your subject in sharp focus underwater can be challenging due to natural turbulence and water currents that shift both you and the subject. Breathing underwater also affects depth, which can complicate maintaining a steady shot. The way light travels through water results in color absorption, with hues diminishing as you go deeper. Higher pressure at greater depths can impact the diver, camera equipment and light quality. Additionally, water clarity can vary greatly, affecting how clearly you can see and photograph your subject.
